Residence in the Czech Republic

Page contents:

In the Czech Republic, residence matters are handled by two divisions of the Ministry of the Interior (MV ČR): The Foreign Police and the Department of Asylum and Migration Policy (OAMP).

Foreign Police

The Foreign Police is responsible for processing short-term visas (up to 90 days), registering newly arrived migrants in the Czech Republic, checking residence permits (e.g., at workplaces or in public), and enforcing regulations when residence conditions are violated.

Department of Asylum and Migration Policy (OAMP)

If you plan to stay in the Czech Republic for longer than 90 days, OAMP will be the key institution you’ll frequently interact with regarding your stay. OAMP handles long-term visas, long-term and permanent residence permits, temporary stays for EU citizens and their family members, biometric cards, etc.

Be sure to adhere to deadlines set by OAMP. Always check when specific residence matters or notification of changes must be addressed, as these regulations are very strict in the Czech Republic.

info

If you need to visit OAMP, book your appointment in advance to avoid waiting for a long time!

You can schedule an appointment online at ipc.gov.cz or by phone.
